What is Adventure Club?

Adventure Club is an opportunity for Utah youth to gain a broader understanding of the world and to help find their place in it. It is to encourage and inspire future leaders through experiential learning, cultural exchange, and service opportunities. We will meet monthly to learn about different cultures; participate in service events; plan and prepare for international travel; develop leadership skills; make new friends; and have an amazing experience.

 

When is Adventure Club?

Adventure Club will meet monthly starting with an orientation in September. In July and August, a group will be traveling to Japan (ages 12-18). The club will end in August with a banquet dinner. Additional events, as needed, may be added to the calendar, in addition to the monthly meeting.

 

Who is eligible to join Adventure Club?

Anyone between the ages of 12 to 18 may apply to join. If you are interested in joining, we ask you to fill out an application and provide personal references. You will receive a follow-up telephone interview. For the 2017-2018 program year, we will be accepting 10 applicants.

 

What is the Cost of Adventure Club?

For the 2017-2018 year the cost per person is $6,800 for the in Japan program year. This includes all the monthly activities; service events; leadership training camp; all travel in Japan, hotels, homestays, meals, baggage fees, airport fees, In Japan Camp fees; and airfare to Japan. It does not include personal spending money in Japan; a passport; or gifts.

 

May I make payments?

Yes. We can set up payment arrangements. Each payment is due by the 15th of the month and all payments need to be in full by May 30th.

 

Are there scholarships available?

Yes. If you are signed up as a fundraiser for the Feed the Need service event, 50% of the money you personally raise will go towards the Adventure Club fee. For example: If you needed the entire fee covered, you could find friends, family, small businesses, or corporations to donate a total of $10,000, 50% or $5,000 will go towards your fee. Family Exchange will also scholarship $1,800 to each member who attends every monthly activity and service event. (The other 50% goes to the actual Feed the Need event to help the hungry kids in Haiti)

 

Where will I stay in Japan?

Host family arrangements will be made through us and our foreign partners in Japan. You will stay with a Japanese family who has a child of the same gender and similar age to you. You will fly into the Narita Airport near Tokyo and be picked up by our Japan partners and your host family. More details will be shared closer to the travel dates.
